Following *CAP WAS INEXPLICABLE*, designer Kengo Kido finally came to terms with the concept of the cap, and the result was this CAPREHENSION.
Since a yo-yo spins better the more weight is concentrated on its outer rims, a cap that adds weight to the inner part is, in theory, unnecessary if the sole goal is spinning performance. However, yo-yos with caps offer a mysterious, weightless sensation that can’t be found anywhere else, along with a unique feel that attracts many players.
Why does a cap—which should be sacrificing rotational performance—feel so pleasant? To find the answer, Kido reexamined the very role of the cap itself.
He arrived at the conclusion that “a cap is what gives a body—which would otherwise be too light to function—enough feedback to make it practical.”
